Provisioning of funds at RE Stage for certain equipment being supplied...

Revised Budgetary Estimate for the current year and the next year have already been prepared in compliance with the cited letter dt 14th Aug.08 of DG Systems and sent to the accounts wing by 22nd Sept. This includes budgetary provisions for the cost of purchase and maintenance of DG Sets, Fire Extinguishers and maintenance cost of the LAN equipments in respect of all the sites under this commissionerate. However, on receipt of the advice of cost estimates from the DG Systems towards these items as mentioned in the DG's letter, a further Revised Budgetary Estimate, if necessary, will be submitted. As desired, the inputs for such estimate is submitted herewith:

 >>>>....  implement LAN equipments at the last phase of the project, so that hqrs. office space can be re-aligned with new workstations and thereafter the WAN equipments and the Server Room is shifted to the new room in the same campus. However, in such a contingency, there is a possibility that the Hqrs. office can not see the documents posted on the ACES by the Divisional & Range officers, owing to LAN installation in Divisions ahead of  Hqrs.Office.  Thus, the Hqrs.office's  change management team will be left behind in understanding the package and the hardware usage;  it is therefore  desired that one set of server + thin client + scanner +  network printer may be supplied to Hqrs.Office for tentative  installlation at the existing communication room for learning purpose, so that the officers in charge of change management team at Hqrs.Office  may take part in earlier training schedule and can lead the Divsions and Ranges.

Redeployment of PCs
I. General:

Regarding, redeployment of existing PC's or conversion thereof into thin clients, the following is suggested : As it may happen with any IT consolidation process, the major and substantial change-over from paper mode may take a few years owing to phased stabilisation of software development for automated applications; in such a case, optimum use of new software application not containing old/existing data conversion,  may initially meet around only 20% of the current workload or productivity. Hence, the conversion of existing hardware into thin clients with no independent storage or without the office software applications like Microsoft Office /  Open Office which  run on Windows platform (O/S) may  put the existing paper mode proceedings that account for 80% of current workload, into deep difficulty. Hence it is suggested that by conversion of existing PC's into thin clients, the users may please be allowed to use existing windows or linux based desktop environment office applications and to store/save documents in local machines for output in printed forms.
